For a name that does not appear on the county roster, the next step depends on the custody question. A person may have been released outside the 48-hour window, transferred to state prison custody, held by another county, or listed under a spelling variation. A court case can also exist even when the person is not in the Jackson County jail. That is why custody lookup and court-record lookup should be treated as related but separate searches.
